My first Lash Experience!

Unfortunately a lot of first-time lash experiences are not a positive one. This is partly because Eyelash Extensions are not a heavily regulated trade. Meaning you don't technically have to have a license or certification to be a lash artist... there are actually lash artists out there learning how to lash on YouTube! And because eyelash extensions make women feel like a million bucks, there is a lot of interest in finding the cheapest way possible to start offering this service... and the cheapo person applying them is using essentially super glue near your eyes with no qualification or guidance...

Did you know I got into eyelash extensions after having a terrible lash experience myself? Almost 10 years ago I had the most awful looking spider-leg-lashes applied to my natural lashes that continued to pinch, twist and strain my lash line. The lash artist who applied them actually told me post-application that it was normal for me to have headaches for a couple days! Well, I lasted about 3 days before I took to those plasticky bastards with some baby oil, hoping to soak them all off and finally have some relief!

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Much to my disappointment, the 10 or so lashes still remaining on each eye made it look even more ridiculous as they were so long they almost tickled my eyebrows. Enter my light bulb moment… I’ll just trim them to the same length as my own lashes so they don't look as bad, and I’ll continue to oil them every day until they all fall out. Great Idea right? Well, all went good with one eye, but unfortunately when it came to doing the other, I misjudged where to cut and ended up cutting several natural lashes much shorter than they originally were. I was hardly going to match up the other eye so off I went with one eye of lashes noticeably shorter than the other, until they eventually grew back to their natural length...6 months later!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fast forward to 2011 when I was running my beauty business specialising in lash lifts and tanning in the north west. I decided to do a little more research into eyelash extensions, still unsure as to why women everywhere were subjecting themselves to such pain and discomfort in the name of beauty. I came across a very helpful educator and eventually learnt that properly applied eyelash extensions are not supposed to be felt by the wearer, let alone hurt. They’re also not supposed to be ridiculously long, or all the same length. A couple months later I flew to Perth for my very first lash training, and the lash obsession began! ⠀⠀⠀

The industry has come a long way in the past 10 years, and it is forever evolving! I believe it is necessary for a lash artist to continuously invest in further education and training to keep skills sharp and up to date with current techniques. I myself do this at least once a year.

I take great pride in educating women on the value of well designed, meticulously applied eyelash extensions, and nothing makes me happier than making them feel absolutely amazing in their own skin. Have you had a bad lash experience before and are nervous to try again? Or perhaps you need an emergency removal.
